Marriage found in Parish Records

It's quite variable - addresses of the couple and of witnesses were not uncommon. On the otherhand, it might just record the reading of the banns, when less info was given.

The marriage was at Saint Mary Magdalene, Bermondsey, Surrey in 1828.

Have you looked to see if the parish has been transcribed by freereg yet? Or to see if there is an online parish clerk?

A lot of old parish records are kept in County archives and not in the parish, so it might save wasted journeys if you could find out where the records are.

You will probably need to visit the local GRO to view the records.

From my experience, unless the happy couple were considered very important, you won't find anything extra beyond the dates that Banns were read, if relevant, the names of witnesses, and the Parishes the bride and groom came from.

You might get lucky and find the marriage was with consent of parents, so could get the father's name for the bride and/or groom.

I have foudn the marraige of one of my rellies in the Parish records on Ancestry. I know that certs were not issued then and I have downlaoaded the image. I was just wondering if I went to the parish and viewed it would I be able to find out anymore as it only had both of their names on it with a date, and I would like to find out a bit more on their immediate family.

Thanks
Tracie.
