I seem to be in some sort of loop. Am I the only one? I am trying to delete unwanted hot matches but they seem to keep coming around again. In fact, as I delete from my ignored matches the number of pages in my current matches is growing. How do I get out of it? Help please I'm exhausted!! |

if you dont want a match just put a * after the surname the gr machine cant cope with it so ignores! |

That was happening to me and I thought I was doing the delete wrong somehow, I was spending hours going through them all. In all the time I´ve been on GR I´ve never had even ONE matching hot match tho I have 900 names on my tree. Now I´ve decided life is too short to search thru 5 pages of one name etc. and now I don´t bother with them at all. I even have time now for "proper" research! |

I recently started doing hot matches from last to first, it seems easier not to lose your place. |

I sort mine by "most" which comes up with a list of the most matches - then just look at the ones with more than 1 match. Then I ignore the rest. They are mostly Abbotts anyway (not from Northampton which is where I want them from) so I'm not worried about them. |

Chica, don't give up hope on the hot matches. I have been here just over two years and never had any really good matches. Then I got a message on Wednesday from someone who got my great grandfather in his matches. Through this person I now have a newspaper cutting of a photo of my great grandad plus his obituary for being killed in WW1. It really made my day as my family have nothing of my ancestors. |

I was contacted yesterday by someone descended from my g g grandma's sister. She has been searching for information for some time, and tried clicking on the tree in the name box on the off chance. |

I think the software for the hot matches treats the surname and the date of birth as exactly correct and the place of birth as irrelevant (!) |

Thanks for all that information everyone. I won't spend time trying to delete them anymore. I was only trying to tidy things up anyway. |
