Bessie is usually short for Elizabeth, or it was in my gran's case.

My aunt was named Bessie. just as it is.

She also makes exceedingly good Yorkshire Puds.

Remember the old rhyme?

Elizabeth, Elspeth, Betsey, and Bess,
They all went together,
To seek a bird's nest;
They found a bird's nest,
With five eggs in,
They all took one,
And left four in.

Elizabeth.
I think that I read somewhere that Elizabeth has more derivatives than any other womans name.

My GGG grandmother was called Elizabeth, Betty and Betsy at various times in her life!

Peter,

I don't know what you are referring to. I make great Yorkshire puds, too, but I buy them frozen and they cook in no time at all. Your Auntie Bessie would be advised to do the same rather than make her own.
