Find Ancestors

I am trying to find the ancestors, without much luck so far, of my great grandmother who I believe was Elizabeth Coulter who was born c1865 possibly in Edinburgh but the place of birth maybe in error. Her father was possibly Alexander Coulter?
In 1883 she married my great grandfather, Arthur John Randall, who lived 1859 to 1923 in Derbyshire. They had at least 8 children including my grandmother, Alice Randall.
Unfortunately I can find no positive information on Ellen Coulter or her ancestors.

Her marriage certificate should give you the name and occupation of her father.

Bear in mind that she might have said Edinburgh as people had heard of it rather than somewhere near Edinburgh.

If that 1911 census Maddie posted is correct, all the children have the mmn as Read/Reid

Have you got Alice’s birth certificate as this could show if her mother had been married before and known by another name.?

The woman who married in 1883 was ELLEN……..why do you think her name was Elizabeth?

Sorry, in my opening post I mistakenly gave her name as Elizabeth Coulter, this was an old name that I had discounted, as far as I know my great grandmothers and me was Ellen Coulter but given the dead end that I meet searching her details I cannot guarantee this is her correct name. Thanks for all the help so far.

Have you any proof that Alice’s father was Arthur John?

Unfortunately I do not know the exact DOB for my grandmother Alice Randal but I do know for certain that she was born in 1911, most likely in Chesterfield, she married my grandfather Walter Redford in 1911 and died in 1912 giving birth to my mother Alice Redford
