Nicola'S Report 17 Aug 2018 17:45

Catherine Clayton nee Grierson was married to my 4x Great Grandfather Miles Clayton as his first wife.

They married on 15.10.1798 at St. Mary, St. Denys & St. George, Manchester.

They appear to have had a daughter Mary Clayton who died on 16.6.1800.

Miles Clayton remarried Sophia Hilton in 1811. Their daughter - another Mary! - was born in 1815 and she is my 3x Great Grandmother.

I have all the above information thanks so please don't use your precious time on all of that.

I am searching for the death of Miles' first wife CATHERINE CLAYTON. From all the above, she must have died between 1799 - 1811 in Manchester area.

I have spent all day trying various avenues of research to find her death but without success. Hope you can help me on this one.

Thank you.

Perhaps she didn’t die during that period.

Divorce was virtually impossible for ordinary folk and people often simply re-married

Possible birth and baptism in 1772, which may help when looking for death

I have been working on the same sort of theories as ErikaH. Divorce practically impossible so presume died.

Where is the 1772 possible birth, please?

family search has a Catherine Clayton died 21st Jan 1800 Manchester. If this is her looks like she may have possibly died in child birth.

safc: I had found the possible 1800 death but discounted it because I thought she was too old. Now I can't find it again!
Please help.

If it is Elizabeth's gal, then Catherine's daughter Mary who died on 16.6.1800 was probably a poorly little thing and didn't survive without her mother??

Mary

Mary Report 17 Aug 2018 19:19

Mary Clayton Baptised 21/8/1799 Salford buried in Heywood Lancashire as said 16/6/1800 her dad Miles Clayton and no mention of mother so it looks like the death age 27 for Catherine Clayton buried 21/1/1800

Thank you Mary. I have the daughter Mary died 16.6.1800 "daughter of Miles Clayton of Manchester". Where did you find the baptism for her and also the death for Catherine with the helpful age at death, please????

Looking good. :-)

Yes Malyon, I had found the son John baptized 22.12.1812 and he is the son of Miles' second wife SOPHIA HILTON. The dates add up so this death probably is him. Good snooping.

That son John was buried by J.E. Booth, Incumbent of St. Stephen's who was the husband of my Great Great Grandmother's younger sister. A family connection!

The death of Catharine Clayton aged 27 in Manchester isn't the right one as the image is on Findmypast and it says she was the wife of William, NOT Miles.

She lived at Sandywells, Salford, , died of "weakness" and was buried in Mr. Blackmore's vault.

The one that died 1800 fits better
and when you view original on ancestry.co.uk could it be something other that Wm??

A private tree on Ancestry has Catherine born 22/7/1772 to Thomas and Ann nee
Tongue married Miles and died 21/1/1800.

Ann Tongue married 1752 to William Buckley
Anne Buckley a widow married 3/11/1760 in Manchester to Thomas Grierson a dealer in Linen Yarn.

Thomas Grinson (Grierson on original view) at same place as Catherine on 8/2/1771 by Thomas and Ann.
