Further down my post is the marriage for Brown Sowther to Annabella Ross 1 March 1862. On my notes I have the following -

Brown marries Annabella Ross on 1 March 1862 at Easington by banns – name as Sowther. Brown is 20 and Annabella is 21, both made mark. Brown living Old Boulby. Don't know where Annabella is from.

Trouble is, apart from info below, I don't know where I got the above from. I also don't know who Annabella's father is. According to FreeBMD Brown dies 1865 (as Southey) and no sign of Annabella after that date.

Can anyone see anything for Annabella? - thank you.


Hello, I am trying to find the marriage of David Souter (could also be Souther). His wife's name is obviously Mary but I cannot find anything on Family Search or FreeBMD. Below is the 1851 census.

Hello, is this the birth for Brown Souter with the middle name of Metcalfe? If so, then Mary could be Mary Metcalfe as there is a Sarah Metcalfe with them on the 1861 census aged 83 who could be Mary's mother.

If the Banns were read only on 2 occasions, maybe the marriage did not happen and they lived common-law. But it is then possible that the marriage took place much later

Often the cause for a marriage not taking place was that one of the spouses had previously been married.

David is shown as 20 on the 1841 and Mary as 25 ............. but ages were rounded DOWN to the nearest 5 on that census, so David could have been between 20 and 24 and Mary between 25 and 29

She could be the one that was already married??????????????

I saw this while looking on FMP, is it your David??
