Looks good - as I mentioned earlier, William was a widower when he married Jane in 1882

When William married in 1882, he gave his age as 43 and his father as John, occupation Mechanic

What is the occupation of John snr in the censuses above?

I would agree that the above are probably the couple who married in Stockport, but I don't think that is the poster's family, when taking into account the info on the other thread about Charles (Marriage: 19th september 1863,st peter. Manchester
Charles Barber age 24,Mechanic, Bachelor To Elizabeth Walker age 23, spinster.
Groom's Father: John Barber ,Mechanic...) in addition to William's marriage

to quote Wikipedia

"Historically, most of the town was in Cheshire, but the area to the north of the Mersey was in Lancashire. Stockport in the 16th century was a small town entirely on the south bank of the Mersey,"

so your family may well have considered themselves Lancastrians

I don't think those births are for this family - they just don't 'gel' somehow...........too late for William, and where are Thomas and Charles?

But, I'd be happy to be proved wrong

You refer on the other thread to your direct line (William)

The 1882 marriage was his second - do you have details of his first?

This is the 1882 one
Name: William Barber
Gender: Male
Marriage Age: 43
Event Type: Marriage
Birth Year: abt 1839
Marriage Date: 8 Jan 1882
Marriage Place: Salford, Stowell, Lancashire, England
Parish as it Appears: Stowell Memorial
Father: John Barber - deceased - Mechanic
Spouse: Jane Henshall
Witnesses both named Mason

Interestingly, Jane is described as a widow, but gives her father's name as James Henshall, deceased, Tailor.

Looking at the info on your previous thread, all of the people on 1841 census are recorded as having been born in Lancashire, so it seems strange that the parents would - perhaps- have married in Stockport
