There is this child?

HAUGHTON, WILLIAM THOMAS MMN LINDSEY
GRO Reference: 1870 S Quarter in ASTON Volume 06D Page 276

Especially as Sarah spells her surname 'Lindsey'

LondonBelle

LondonBelle Report 26 Nov 2017 15:56

Yes, Sarah did marry Thomas Haughton on 18 Apr 1870 as St Matthew's Church, Aston

Thomas Haughton is a Tool Maker, Father William Haughton, Weaver

Sarah gives her Father's name as William Lindsey (sic) Machinist. She is a Minor.

Witnesses are William Abraham & Sarah Hunt

Sarah signs her own name....missing the 'd' out of Lindsey and inserting the 'd' above the surname. She spells the surname 'Lindsey'

Andrew

Andrew Report 26 Nov 2017 15:54

Thats correct marriage. No children apparent either.

Just compared the witnesses on both marriages.

1853 - Roshannah Lloyd

1856 - Roshannah Skinner

The style, especialy the capital 'R' seem identical, so I think that clinches it.

Ann probably committed bigamy and her family covered it up.

So is the Ann Lindsay in the 1856 Baptism the same person who marries Thomas Pitt a year later?

On the Baptism William Lindsay is an Engine Fitter as is John Lindsay, her father, on the marriage record......

Have to say, great detective skills from everybody, many thanks for your time and efforts.

I'm with Nyx on this one, that marriage for Ann, and the subsequent birth of William looks good. I think you are looking for an Ann Lloyd with father John on earlier census - if she married under her previous married name and they simply asked her fathers name then they would have assumed John was also a Lindsay. However, as Dea has asked, does it give fathers occupations on the MC?
