I also tried to find out what happened to Edith Elizabeth Barrett...born 1884.

Not having any luck so far.

Robert & Martha had no children on 1891 or 1901 census, maybe they couldn't have any - although not impossible but they had been married a long time before John Oliver came on the scene. Maybe he was their "adopted" child, hence no birth record in that name?

What was declared on the 1911 census re children born/survived?

yes the story goes that John was adoped but have found his family and meet up and to see them and photos of him he has to be either Roberts son from out of wed lock or ediths as a young girl so thank you for all your help once again don't know what I would have done or how many more years it would have taken
thank you so much to all

Don't think he was Ediths son, as there should have been a birth registered in the Barrett name (even if the father was named on the cert if she wasn't married it would have been dual registered) - and this doesn't appear to be the case.

He could have been the son of some other extended family member if you believe there was a family resemblance?

If you think he was related I would be tempted to get his birth certificate.

I did wonder if this is the Charlotte listed as his mother on the Christening:
