I thought you must 'know that' :-)

The image is VERY clear, good hand writing but if you were tired, it may have confused you

Midnight, UK time, is what in CA.....7ish ;-)

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 10 Jul 2016 22:15

Gins ........

do you honestly and truly think I don't know that?

really!

I said that the writing on the image COULD be taken for Rachel, meaning at first glance.

......... and I do admit that I didn't look at the image at midnight your time.

That was neglectful of me ............. but I don't need an elementary lesson in reading censuses.

The transcription(s) from site to site can be correct/incorrect but the 'image' of the census is a 'scan' of the original

SylviaInCanada Report 10 Jul 2016 21:32

OK

I bow to Gins superior information

Although I must admit that the handwriting as showing on the ancestry site could be taken as Rachel.

I wonder if the Fairweathers had been there for some time, and naming the son "Ruchet" was a nod to friendship, or to the fact that the 2 mothers were pregnant at the same time?

Linkfield House was definitely a big house ....... 13 rooms, and 16 people living there (9 men, 7 women)

ArgyllGran Report 10 Jul 2016 20:51

He's on Gloucester ER's from 1939 to 1971:

Gee Report 10 Jul 2016 20:14

I'd checked the image and the following is correct:

On the 1911 census, there are two 'Ruby' girls, one an adult (24yr) and the other a daughter (under a mth)

Ruchet Ransome Swan is a boy born 1911, married three times and dies in 1979.

There is no Rachel on the 1911 census

Added: Here he is in 1939

Swan Household (1 Person)
35 Arthur Street , Gloucester C.B., Gloucestershire, England

Rucher (mistranscribed) R Swan 13 Mar 1911 Male Coach Finisher Married 146 1

ArgyllGran

my earlier post didn't appear as clearly as I had hoped, although I didn't notice last night

Ruchet was a mis transcription!!!

FMP version as posted by Gins .........

William Augustus Swan Head Married Male Clerk 31 1880 Hamilton Bermuda
Rose Annie Swan Wife Married Female - 34 1877 St Georges Gordon Square London Middlesex
William Augustus Swan Son - Male - 9 1902 London Kennington
Stanley Howard Swan Son - Male - 7 1904 London Kennington
>>>>>>>> Ruchet Ransome Swan Son - Male - 0 1911 Isleworth Middlesex
Ruby Ruchet Fairweather Boarder Married Female - 24 1887 Ancroft Northumberland

Version as posted by ancestry ..........

>>>>> Rachel Ransome Swan Under 1 M <<<<<<<<
Ruby Rachel Fairweather 24
Ruby Rachel Fairweather 0
Reginald Rachel Fairweather Under 1 M

so it was a little girl called Rachel

BUT ancestry did get the Ruchet wrong for the Fairweathers :-D

Sylvia, I was intrigued by what connection Ruchet Ransome Swan had to the Ruchet-Fairweather family, too.

Haven't managed to work it out.

His mother wasn't a Ruchet:

Marriages Mar 1901 (>99%)
HILL Rose Annie Chelsea 1a 521
Swan William Augustus Chelsea 1a 521

They were an army family:

William A Swan
in the 1891 England Census
Name: William A Swan
Age: 11
Estimated birth year: abt 1880
Relation: Son
Father's name: William S Swan
Mother's name: Elizabeth Swan
Gender: Male
Where born: Bermuda
Civil Parish: Kensington
Ecclesiastical parish: Holy Trinity
County/Island: London
Country: England
Street address: South Kensington Museum, RE Barracks
Registration district: Kensington
Sub registration district: Brompton
ED, institution, or vessel: 5
Neighbors: View others on page
Piece: 30
Folio: 119
Page Number: 15
Household Members:
Name Age
William S [actually A] Swan 44 - Company Sergeant Major, RE, born Chelsea
Elizabeth Swan 36 - born Barbados (British Subject)
William A Swan 11 - Bermuda
Percy Swan 9 - Gibraltar
Florence Swan 7 - Chatham, Kent
Arthur G Swan 5 - Brompton
Victoria Swan 3 - ditto
Lilian M Swan 11/12 - ditto

Presumably his father's birth:
Births Jun 1848 (>99%)
Swan William Augustus Frederick Bethnal Gn 2 24

William and Elizabeth maybe married abroad, perhaps in Bermuda.

Google Reginald Ruchet Fairweather, and there are several mentions of him being made in The London Gazette ...... presumably promotions in rank

eg https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/35005/page/6862/data.pdf

The undermentioned Squadron Leaders are transferred to the Technical Branch.
