Hi Cane, are you sure they were still living?

do you know when/where daughter Amanda married if she did?

... answer: in 1908 in Hunslet, to Harry Garnett or William Hopper

... Harry Garnett, household in 1911 in Hunslet:

Harry Garnett 26
Amanda Garnett 22
Harry Garnett 1

(I think you meant they were living in Hunslet in 1901, not 1911)

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 22 Mar 2016 18:56

for our info, household in 1901 in Hunslet

William Crook 56 Manchester
Mary Crook 55 Manchester
Fanny Crook 23 Hunslet
Alice Crook 21 "
Amanda Crook 12 "
Henry Crook 19 "

mm hmm! (actually you can use the edit link on that post and delete all the blank space ... really you can delete everything except the household list at the very end ... it makes it a whole lot easier to follow the thread)

Deaths Dec 1920
CROOK William 76 Hunslet 9b 535

so they seem to have stuck around, but I'm not finding him and Mary in 1911 either, using any little trick

JoonieCloonie

Mary ........

please, why don't you post the record??

We all have to go searching for what you've found, which duplicates effort.

conversely, Sylvia, the record from FMP contributes precisely nothing except to take up 6 inches of height on my monitor with bumph. :-)

(if a newbie doesn't know how to read Freebmd records, that's one thing, but all we're doing here is posting info the OP already as)

and here I thought when I saw your name - Sylvia to the rescue, she's found them! :-P

... so anyhow it looks like only William is likely to be in the 1911?

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 22 Mar 2016 21:21

I did look for William on FMP ...... it is not an uncommon name :-(

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 22 Mar 2016 23:01

okay, familysearch has him - searched with full name, Manchester, Hunslet, 1842-44

and it won't show me the details but this is the thumbnail

William Crook
Head
England and Wales Census, 1911
birth: Manchester, Lancashire
residence: 1911
Hunslet, Hunslet Leeds, Yorkshire (West Riding), England

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XWVH-BW8

okay it worked when I reloaded, only thing added is age 45

so now off to Ancestry to try to find the matching record and see who else might be there

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 22 Mar 2016 23:12

I am flummoxed. I have looked at every person in Hunslet who was born in Manchester. Every William in Hunslet born 1856. Etc. etc. What stupid Ancestry trick we will be witnessing when he is found, I can't even guess.

the age on the familysearch record is well off, a dob of 1856, but it must be him, and either the age is mistranscribed or the person who filled out the record guessed that he was 45

not at 2 Stafford where they were in 1901 ...

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 22 Mar 2016 23:26

Joonie .........

It's his son!

this is from FMP

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 22 Mar 2016 23:29

Name Age
William Crook 38
Mary Crook 36
James Crook 16
William Crook 15 <<<<<<<<<< b.ca 1866, Hulme, Lancashire
Emily Crook 10
Hannah Crook 7
Mary E. Crook 5
Fanny Crook 3
Alice Crook 1
Richard Crook 22

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 22 Mar 2016 23:32

aargh, I knew I had already found the son in 1911 (and also son James) and of course I just saw him again now in my wndering, and I was afraid that might be it, but familyseach says age ........... it was my math.

I subtracted 45 from 1911 and got 1856 instead of 1866.

Moron moron this is what happens when you work all night! so familysearch doesn't have him either

I wonder about the old initials-only thing if a patient or pauper in an institution, but in 1911 were they not recording full names?

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 22 Mar 2016 23:34

I've tried looking under W C in case he was in an asylum or other institution ....... but can't any that look him.

I wonder what the death certificate says???

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 22 Mar 2016 23:36

to answer your question ............... there were 25 patients in asylums in Yorkshire with initials that include W and surname C

so they weren't using full names.
