mgnv is the one to thank..I would have still been looking for Elijah !!! Still cannot fathom out why he used a different name and what was a "Potter" doing living/working in the Liberties..(the area of Dublin where St Catherines is situated)

Hello mgnv, the story in the family was that Elizabeth came over from Rathmines with Thomas (no husband was mentioned) interestingly, are there two different "husbands" one called Francisco Forde in Dublin and an English husband called Elijah Ford? perhaps the first husband died and Elizabeth met up with Elijah?

Thank you to all who have helped with the research :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

Francisco? - really!!
How many folks in Ireland were called Francisco, or Josephus (like his godfather), or Patricius (like the kid baptized after him) - see:

http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/display-pdf.jsp?pdfName=st.catherine_baptisms_mf_1811-1880_ba_0574

As you can guess from the baptismal register headings, Irish RC ceremonies were conducted in Latin in the 19th cent (and most of 20th), and these included latinized forms of the forenames (with appropriate grammatical case endings - note his dad appears as Francisci - not Franciscus. Anglo-Saxon nouns (like modern German) had case endings, but modern English has almost lost them - only the possessive case ending (the apostrophe s) remains, although pronouns proved more resistant - e.g., the first person singular pronoun still has several case forms - I, me, myself, my, mine).

I think Francis & Elijah are the same person - Malcolium
