I don't understand this. It seems to be his arrival in 1907 but lists nearest relative from whence he came as his wife Mary A, Malone. Crossmaglen. Says he's gong to join brother Thomas Malone, 309? 89th. St., New york.

Thx to Margee, Eringobragh1916, Malyon & Rambling Rose...

I too had found 1907 Caronia ship record for Michael & knew that all 4 of his children, Tom, Mary, Alice & Michael 'Jack' were born in the USA. But 1907 date was confusing...

Info of his children

Alice Malone is/was my husbands grandmother. one of her daughters is still living.
Tom was a priest (Maryknoll missionary) & spent a large portion of his life in Taiwan, where he died.
Michael aka Jack, was in CIA & there are books/flight logs re: his involvement in Cuba. His wife Anne, nee Connors, recently died aged 99 & that has prompted this new search. Their children are all living.
Mary's son is alive & we are in touch.

However, even with living relatives, gathering info re: Michael 1876/77 remains a challenge.

Please do keep feeding new details, if they can be found.... :-)
of particular interest, Michael 1876/77, his siblings & parents

Thank you from very chilly NY!!!

Hello Alyson...

Yes I know the how chilly NY can be ...(.lived on East End Ave for a year back in the day...)

It would be interesting to find the incoming Passenger List to Ireland for Michael it may show the family came back together if his nok is listed as MaryA. Crossmaglen when he returned to NY
Alice was b NY 1906/1907 therefore the inbound journey would be 1906/1907.

I haven't yet found either Michael's or Mary' original voyages out to NY...

Alyson Report 5 Jan 2016 19:49

YAY!!!...certainly could be the family...!
I don't have sibling info of Michael 1876/77...but have put question out there.

However...Newtonhamilton/Crossmaglen & Armagh/Monaghan are neighbouring towns/counties, so not a stretch in that regard :-)

If all this is correct, so far, we have:
Michael Malone b.@ 1840
m. Mary_______________? Malone b. @ 1841

S-Thomas b. @ 1867
S-Michael b. @ 1876/77 m 1903 Mary Ann McCooey (of McCooey/McDonald or McDonnell)
S-Edward b. @ 1882

GD-Bridget Rice b. @ 1897

The farming connection is known...
The McCooey homestead, in Drumlougher, known as Johnny's, was in ruins last we saw it. A young relative is either rebuilding or using same footprint, to build new home. The McCooey farm, now operated by Kelly family, I believe is combination of land belonging to the 2 families. Old N/S border runs through farm property.

Alyson...I have found what could be some sisters of Michael and possibly Michaels Baptism although the dates you have are out by approx.6 yrs.

A check of the Upper Creggan Baptismal Records 1871-1880..

http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0206

They show the following and though they are written more clearly than some I have read I may have missed some...

Parents throughout are... Wait for it.....Michael Malone and Mary Malone..!!
So you have a Malone marrying a Malone....

23 March 1870 Michael
20 April 1871 Annie
15 July 1874 Catherine
29 March 1878 Brigid
10 October 1879 Margaret.

***Note the gap of 4 years between Catherine and Brigid.

Will have a look at the earlier Registers when I get a chance..

Good morning / afternoon!! Are you in England, Ireland??

You have been busy....

Re: U/Creggan Baptismal records...
I believe our understanding of Michael's birth year 1876/77 is accurate, based on 1920 census (Bronx NY) & his children's ages/births etc.
So, is it possible that Michael 1870, did not survive childhood...? & later named a subsequent son, Michael as well. (I know this to be common practice in Scotland, home of my Ayrshire ancestors Macfarlane/Black/Wallace).

Of course there are years of missing records...just our luck!!

Per, 1901 Census, Michael @ 1840 & Mary @ 1841, were born in Co Monaghan...is that also in Upper Creggan?? Perhaps there are birth/baptismal records, and /or their marriage records @ 1860-1865...?

As for Thomas Malone & spouse death records...great find!!!
Calvary is a huge cemetery, 350 acres+ but definitely somewhere to check out (on a warmer day!!)
Michael, I'm told, died May 16, 1960, presumably somewhere in NY. his death record should show birth date etc. right??

Also, per Michael/Mary Ann Mccooey marriage record, his immigration year was 1892, so need to check ship logs for that year.

*My mother-in-law is giddy, beaming from ear to ear from all this new information!!! Thank you!!

Got to head out to work...will catch-up a bit later..
Thx again!

Alyson...Have found some more info.relating to Thomas Malone I did some searching re his 2 daughters and found they both stayed single and are buried with their parents at Woodside Queens Calvery but it appears Thomas had been married before his marriage to Annie Byrne...

https://billiongraves.com/grave/person/3525959

A search for Margaret (Maggie) O'Hara shows she was b Ireland abt. 1857 and emigrated 1880..I cant find their marriage but the they were together on the 1900 Census living 210 East 69th St. NY stated they had been married 8 years. Thomas was working as a carpenter and there were no children.
Margaret died 1903.
