Thank you Andy but my calculation is that Mary Hannah moved to Bradford, as a teacher, and stayed with her brother William, I think, the father of Cyril Russell who then married Mary's daughter Grace Beatrice Adams. It is much easier for me as I am building a tree in PAF5 and can see the relationships.

The Pettinger family are in Norfolk in 1881. There no Charles Adams that jumps out as a possible, name is rather common.

Thank you Andrew, this is what is so unfortunate that Charles does not appear with his family in any cesus but, while Mary is still in Retford in 1881, it seems possible that Charles would already be in Bradford, or close by?

What I wondered was will there be a marriage with full details on any site you clever people know about? Also, assuming he is a similar age to Mary Hannah, does he appear in the 1881 census in Bradford?

Hi All,
You will be pleased to hear that I have, at last, heard back from a living Pettinger relative who confirms that all that I had found for Grace Beatrice Adams is correct and she did marry her cousin Cyril Russel Pettinger in 1915. You will probably also appreciate that I am pleased being able to avoid spending on a Birth Certificate !!! lol

The 1851 census on Ancestry states he was born...Whittam, Nottinghamshire, England.

I think that should be......Whatton Nottinghamshire ?

Some of the problem is I have no indication of where William was born except he got married :-

Good Morning All,

Keeping in the right thread.
By coincidence, Catherine had some fun, before going away, chasing the Adam family and it landed back with Mary Hannah Pettinger. Whilst you have given me most of the census for this extended family, I find I am short of 1861 for parents James and Hannah with daughter Mary Hannah and siblings.
Please could anybody fill this gap, so I can then pick out the correct children in FreeBMD.
