Vivien Report 28 Nov 2015 19:16

Thanks everyone. Sorry had PC problems.
1: Eringobragh1916 : Matthew Callan of Turk's Head, was my great grandfather. I have him already.
2: I am going to look into the McCritchie link. This looks good. Firstly her father was at sea, and we seem to only have one Joseph of that name who died at sea, and secondly Audrey remarries. Which points to first husband dying. And the census ties them together, thank you Marie Celeste.
3 I have found one of the original missing dead siblings of my father, which started this distraction. I looked for deaths in the gap in babies of my grandmother , she seemed to have them every year or so, but there was a 3 year gap. I researched deaths with the Callan name, concentrating on young children. A name jumped out, that was a great grandmother's name, and sent for birth certificate and confirmed. Hunches can work. Ploughing on with all these Callans, with the reoccurring Christian names :-D

Going back to the Deaths at Sea transcriptions posted above, the image for the records gives his last place of abode as 122 Bearing Street, South Shields (I think this should actually be Baring Street - runs off Ocean Road).

The family is at 41 Chichester Road, Westoe on the 1911 census. There is a D. Callan, a stoneman, at 92 Chichester Road in Wards 1915/1916 directory - just in case connected.

The cause of death was "fell down hold while putting on hatches".

she'd be a mite old for him :-)

Greyghost - don't worry, I found that marriage and was whoo hoo, easy, then looked at the date.. did that earlier in the evening. Would be awful if all of these children died fairly young

Vivien

Vivien Report 22 Nov 2015 23:46

Agnes is born in 1911. That marriage would make her 13 at the time of marriage! Can't be her.

Two minds Alviegal...............

The Hamburg one seems very coincidental doesn't it?

Many a good run ashore had by a sailor in Hamburg - although maybe it didn't end so well in Joseph's case !

Vivien

Vivien Report 22 Nov 2015 23:30

Thanks. So annoying that they didn't put DOB on the census. Age all depends on what part of year you were born. There aren't many with the name Joseph Callan, I will try to investigate that, if its possible. Will also look at Margaret's death. Now for Agnes and William.

greyghost Report 22 Nov 2015 23:23

Probably Joseph's birth reg - Coxhoe is in Durham RD.

A birth Q2 would make him 23 at death January 1926
