I think 230 High Street, was part of Hackney Hospital known as the Hackney Institution from 1930- 1948

well according to the hackney hosp creed she was in hosp 2.5.1930 to 14.5.1930 maybe the places are one and the same

Unlikely I think, she probably just went there prior to the birth and discharged after.

Ok so im guessing thats where the baby was born all points to that on google. Does that mean she would of worked in the work house?

The workhouse infirmary is just the 'hospital wing' as it were of the workhouse, in the 30s it would have been where non residents of the workhouse could also go for medical treatnebt ( pre NHS), women from the local community went there to give birth also.

Hi Rose i actually found this site this morning just a short while ago and looked at it i was not sure if its the same as the birth cert states 230 High street, Lower Clapton so i was unsure. Now going to look at the info on the home link see if i can establish a connection.

I have just spoke with PACT they was known as the national adoption society 1916-1931 the lady i need is off today so ive rambled on to someone and shes going to forward all to her and call me back i hope monday! May not uncover anything but might.

I have contacted the salvation army but that was 5 days ago now with no response as yet.

Fabulous and yes i have emailed the childrens society i believe this morning i had an online chat with them and was then diverted to an email they gave me a phone number too but that was 0207 841 4567 so different.

I am also wondering if you know of this basically the address born on her birth certificate is 230 high street lower clapton now i know she spent from that day also in hackney hospital but if she was born in the hospital would it not say so? also 230 high street was not her address as she was infact from urswick road lower clapton. im just wondering if infact its possible she was in a unmarried mothers home or some such?

I did know children who, in the late 1940's mid 1950's who were adopted from them. They mentioned their parents went to a Nursery and 'Chose' the child. No mention of a photo although the adopting parents had been put down for a different infant.
If the adopting parents couldn't travel from Ireland, it would be logical to send photos first.
No harm in asking the society!

lol Thank you however i dont know but it was worth a try but her religion on her discharge notes on the Hackney Hospital creed is C of E but i will try anything to be honest as you just never know. All im sure of is someone was involved as the child was chosen by a photo so it shows there has to of been :-)
