Find Ancestors

If you read my opening post Yvonne, you will see that I already have the 1871 census.

It was the 1861 census I was looking for and that has now been found.

Malyon - the Emanuel Fryer born 1829 (who has previously been eliminated) was a mariner so quite likely at sea in 1871. His wife Leah is at home with all the children in 1871.
So Emanuel b1829 is the father of the children you've listed, not the one born 1803

Thanks malyon but if you read back through the thread, you will see that that is not the Emmanuel I am interested in.

09 April 1870 - Hampshire Advertiser - Southampton, Hampshire, England

YARMOUTH, April 9
Accident - On Tuesday as an old man named Emanuel Fryer, who is in the habit of bringing passengers' luggage from the steamer to the shore, was passing over a collier which was moored between the steamer and the quay he fell down, breaking one of his ribs, and injuring another. Medical attendance was called in, and, under the care of Dr. Hollis, he is now progressing favourably.

Found him.

His age is 52 on the 1861 census, born 1809. Lodging in the Isle of Wight.

As the only marriage showing for an Emanuel Fryer between 1851 and 1871 is the one to Leah Fryer, I don't think my Emmanuel married.

Oh well, scrub that theory, it was just a shot in the dark! Sorry but I can't see your guy in 1861 either.

Yes I have traced that Emanuel Fryer in earlier census records.

He is with parents William and Hannah on the 1841 census.

This appears to be his baptism

I should have said earlier census records!

Have you looked for the younger Emanuel (the one married to Leah) on the census? It's not that common a name in IoW - maybe there is a connection? Could your Emanuel have been married/widowed before census records - just a thought.

I have found Leah Fryer and Emanuel on the 1911 census.

The 1911 census gives Emanuel's age as 83.

My Emmanuel would have been 108 if he was still alive in 1911.

He is 68 on the 1871 census.

as usual, an ancestry tree has made assumptions with no proof :-)

a Public Family Tree on ancestry has him marrying Leah Fryer ??????????????

According to this tree, Leah was born 1834, Yarmouth, baptised 4 Ma7 1834, Yarmouth, no parents shown

It also says she died 18 Feb 1921, Yarmouth, buried 22 February
