Catherine Tippet has an illegitimate child Elizabeth Ninnis Tippet 1849 and dies unmarried in 1854.

The cut off lines for eaxh household are just before the names across the line at the begining as //

It is also after Mary Tippet who is residing with Elizabeth Pascoe 75.

Catherine Tippet and Catherine Bassett are two different people

both listed in 1841

I have a photo of the original marriage in church register.
My original question was can anyone find a link between Sarah and the Catherine Basset in the 1841 census. It may help find sarah's origins.

Have just looked at those images for the 1841 census. The enumerator has not only used the "/" and "//" marks to denote the end of households and dwellings but has usefully also bracketed together (the brackets being to the right of the ages) the various households.

In this particular instance those bracketed together are:

Thos Tippett
Sally
William
George
Catherine
Martin
John
Sally
Harriet

People who appear to be living alone are indicated by a "+" (or it may be a "x") to the right of their ages. This pattern continues throughout the various pages.

Again, in this particular instance, Catherine Basset has a "+" to the right of her age, denoting she is alone in a household.

Anita, as you "have been doing this a very long time" (as have all of us) then you will be aware that (as Mike previously said) ages in the 1841 census were rounded down to the nearest 5 for anyone over 15, therefore Catherine Bassett was certainly old enough to be living alone (and even if she was only 15 you can't say she wouldn't live alone).

Look at Mel's post. The census / and // are clearly laid out. In the 1841 a/ is above Catherine and the // after her. Ergo she is living with Sarah but not of Sarah's immediate family as the rest are. The same applies to mary Tippett and Elizabeth Pascoe on the same page. A single/ is above Mary and the // below her but she is in the same house as Elizabeth. On the left the census enumerator marks each separate dwelling with a 1. There is 1 by Thomas Tippet but the next is Elliot Pascoe.
I disahree with your reading and have had this checked at the National Archives by a reader there.
