In 1841, Sarah (Sally) Tippet nee Basset age 45 is living in Kea Cornwall. With her is Catherine Basset age 15. I am trying to find the family link because I cannot identify Sarah from present info.
The only Catherine Basset who fits was baptised 17 April 1829 (born 1828) at Bethsada Chapel St Columb Major, Cornwall. Parents William and Catherine nee Harris.

Can anyone find a marriage between William and Catherine?

Can anyone link William with Sarah.
I have a lot of info but can't fix her parents!!!

Will be back, with gaps!
Many thanks
:-S

No
Catherine's baptism in on Cornwall OPC Non Conformist Registers. They very helpfully give MMN. She is definitely Basset although 1841 census habit of rounding to nearest 5 doesn't help matters.

I looked at the baptism for Catherine and parents are named as William & Catherine Harris

Father has the same occupation on the baptism as the 1841 census that I posted

Anita Report 27 Jul 2015 18:25

My Catherine born about 1827, William above 1857 - too many years between them I think.
Still no sign of marriage or relationship with Sarah born about 1796.

Yes that's the 1841. Thomas and Sabby(bad handwriting) Sally/Sarah Tippet is my great, great, great grandmother. She is my only blank line going back.
I have her in 1851,1861; she died age 71 in 1864 but age is variable with each census.
Beneath Sally is Harriet Tippet 5 and Catherine Basset 15.

Yes to jail 1820. Her first child was born in jail and baptised at Launceston, father Thomas Tippet of Kea.
My census extract is from ancestry and over ten years old. I have complete transcription of H0107/147 folio32 page 7 at Tomperrow which is in Kea area. Catherine's surname almost reads as Barfish!

Gee

Gee Report 27 Jul 2015 18:45

The census that Mike posted, you say is your family

But there is no is Catherine Basset age 15?

Anita

Anita Report 27 Jul 2015 18:45

Just used source on my ancestry tree for 1841. There is a line drawn down which is leading to only up to Sally 6 being read but beneath are Harriet and Catherine.
The original is quite clearly one family. Catherine Tippet is Sarah's daughter

Mike * Report 27 Jul 2015 18:48

Catherine Bafsett aged 15 is not in the same household.
There is a cut-off mark after Harriot aged 5

Looks like Catherine Bassett is living alone.

Gee

Gee Report 27 Jul 2015 18:50

My thoughts too Mike

Looking at Catherine's surname, I'm not sure it was Basset? Seems to be a Y in the surname

Anita

Anita Report 27 Jul 2015 18:54

Look at any other mark dividing households on the same double page and it is clearly BELOW Catherine Basset and above Elliot Pascoe. The word Tomperrow is again repeated level with Pascoe.
The line is used to designate one family, as Catherine is below it she is not a child of Sabby and Thomas but in the same household.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 27 Jul 2015 18:57

The line drawn down denotes the children to Thos and Sally the Catherine Basset is not one of their children. Could she be Sally's sister????? Or her brothers child?

Anita

Anita Report 27 Jul 2015 18:59

Catherine would not be living alone at 15 and there is no 1 in the left hand column to show another dwelling place. The name is Basset. Several contact also read it as Basset. Given ss was written as fs without the cross bar in the f in this period it is about the practices used in 1841.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 27 Jul 2015 19:01

Gins it is'nt a y it is an old fashioned s written as f.

She is included in the house of Thos Tippet and Sally but they hav'nt transcribed Harriet aged 5.
