According to the Army List of Sodiers Effects, your grandfather enlisted in 1903 so perhaps his brother also enlisted before WW1

Rootgatherer. His middle name is definately John, as its on his headstone.

ArgyllGran, his wifes name was Ada Whyman, born in Nuthampstead. Off the top of my head i dont think they married until 1929, or thereabouts.

Sorry, no. Its rather confusing, but the Edward Martin, born 1888 Anstey is not the one. They lived very near each other though.!!

Edward John, 1891, is on 1891 c. and the 1901 c. his Father
Arthur, Mother Sarah Ann.

He should be in the 1901 census of Anstey Hertfordshire, with Father Arthur and mother Sarah Ann. plus siblings.
