Iain, welcome to the boards.

John posted 6 months ago and may not be looking back for further answers. Try clicking on his name and the chance to send him a personal message will come up. As long as he still has the same email address as he registered with GR he will be notified that there is a message for him.

John Reilly married my great granny in 1921. Jane Black was previously married to William Gauld in 1904. Together they had Mary b 1904 and George b 1909, both born in Uphall. The family moved to Canada and they had Dorothy b 1911, Sadie b 1913, Douglas b 1915 and Beatrice b 1918, all born in Toronto. William was a stonemason and died in 1917, before Beatrice was born. The family moved back to Uphall and Jane went on to marry John Reilly in 1921. John had been staying in one of the village green cottages in Dalmeny. As you know they went on to have James, Constantine and Andrew. John Reilly died in the early 1960's but I have early memories of him.

Gritty Report 19 Jun 2015 21:06

John Reilly's first wife was Sarah Jane McGrath- they married in 1893 Johnstone.

This looks like them in 1901- seems his children from second marriage were named the same as his first marriage!

Jacqueline,
As Constantine died in 2007 didn't think it would matter posting full address especially as other occupants are not at same address in later records but have taken house number off my post.

Good to see my idea of parents names being on death record of brother who died in WW2 was helpfull. Seems to be a good result.

John, you need to give us the name of the brother who died in WW2.
His death record could very well give you his parents names.

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 19 Jun 2015 15:33

I presume you've already checked in search trees, and that you have these people in your own tree on here.

What was the first name of the brother who died in WW2?

Catherine

Catherine Report 19 Jun 2015 15:24

There does seem to be a marriage in 1948 but can't say exactly where, but it is in West Lothian.
EDIT:- Have checked all districts and marriage took place in Fauldhouse.

Catherine Report 19 Jun 2015 15:18

A quick look on scotlands people shows only one possible birth, so you could get a copy of his birth certificate, which should give you both parents names.
With this you can then look for a marriage for his parents. (With middle name Black, I would imagine that his mother's maiden name is possibly Black but you need the cert. to be sure)

You need to know their parents names to lol for a marriage for them and to see if they are on the census pre 1911

His marriage cert should give his dad's name

Not seeing his marriage did this take place in Scotland too ??

If so you need to use Scotlands People website which is a pay site

I would start with his marriage certificate which hopefully would give you his parents.
