Looks like he joined the Marines after discharge from the Gloucesters. He was discharged from the Marines in 1912 so possibly re-enlisted in army for WW1.

Yvonne, if you have the medals then around the rim of the medal should be his name, rank service number and regiment (although many I've seen are quite badly worn).

Can you decipher anything from them and post it on here?

To go back further with Hubert, you need 1919 Marriage Cert., will give name of his Father (hopefully!) to get right one.

thanks to everyone who replied to my posts all information on lizzie king nee sabin is what i've found. hubert charles kings name is on death certificate of william sabin lizzie sabins dad. Hubert had the nick name of either ube or jube.he also served in ww1 have found two medals which i presumed belong to him but don't know how to verify this, also some photos in uniform.

I did wonder if this was his birth it's a year out from the birth date given on the death record, but registered in the correct quarter:

I'm struggling to see him on any census. It may be easier to buy his marriage certifcate which will give you his age and father's name.

The 1901 and 1911 census is for the Hubert who was born in 1888...so not the right Hubert.

2 trees on Ancestry have Hubert and Lizzie in their trees but unfortunately no details for Hubert regarding his birth.

A very nice photo of them though.
