This is the rub...

Women were not given the vote before the war. At the end of the war, in 1918, however, the Representation of the People Act gave women over 30 the vote, and in 1928 this was extended to all women over the age of 21.

So after 1928, assuming she was 21, which I guess she was if she had been married 13 years!!!!!, you should be able to find her. You may need to visit a library however

The problem I have found is that the electoral rolls here, are only available in the library after WW1. And the years I were particularly interested in were 1900 to 1920

Thank you Jude yes sorry do mean Electoral Roll I cannot find my Grandfather living with his first wife at all 1915-1932 very frustrating think I will just have to forget about that one :-(

HeyJudeB4Beatles Report 19 Apr 2015 18:33

There wasn't a census in 1915! Assuming you mean the electoral roll, all persons eligible to vote would be on it. In 1915, voting rights were minimal. And for woman almost negligible.

on Ancestry I have noticed that on 1915 census they only give one person per household is this the reason why I cannot find them living together ?

Hi Chris yes I would say that could be a mistake re Hauxton so I will take that one to be her and 1911 census for her parents to be correct aswell thank you. If you have any other ideas as to where they could be living in 1915 to 1932 whilst married to Alfred I am now wondering if Alfred was in Army ? did they have army homes in WW1 ?
Kind Regards
Angela

Would depend when Hendon became part of London instead of Middlesex which I think would have been 1960's

Also looked at that birth but thought it might go with possible marriage of Stephen Lock in 1908 to Mary Elizabeth Symonds

They are on 1911 census in Cirencester

As he was your grandfather have you got the birth certificate of any of their children which will give you the address at that time
