Hi
I am hoping someone can help.
I am trying to find out my family history on my father's side.
My dad is named - Peter Charles Ellam born 04.01.1953. His father was also Peter Ellam born 1929. My dad's mothers name is Joan Ellam but I am unsure on her maiden name.
My granddad originally came from Huddersfield and came to Portsmouth o join the Royal Navy.
I would love to find out as much as I can on the family history and as far back as possible. I do not know where to start. Please can anyone help?

Jason if you are going to family history then you are going to have to accept that you need to invest in some certificates.

You also need to realise that the work that's been done on here is done by other members using their own subscriptions so it's best to acknowledge the help you've been given as it is considerable.

jason

jason Report 4 Apr 2015 14:23

My great grandmother was originally from Guernsey and she may have married whilst still in Guernsey. I believe her husband was called Charles Pithers.
They lived together in Alton for a while before setting up home in Portsmouth. Details are a bit sketchy. I never met either of them as they died way before I was born.
My great grandmother's name was Gertrude Gillman.

I pop down the road and come back to this! There was nothing wrong with Jason's original post nor Yvonne's reply so why on earth has this thread been reported, not once but twice??

Rambling Report 4 Apr 2015 15:35

I think it could be because the DOB was given for Jason's father who is possibly still living born 1950s?

What have I done wrong, why has this been reported?

Rambling

Rambling Report 4 Apr 2015 16:22

Jason I am not certain if you put your father's full date of birth? If so that could be why it was reported, it's advised just to put the qtr and year rather than full date of someone who could be living, to protect privacy and protect against possible ID theft.

Would have been better if the reporter had asked you to edit though ( asuming this is the reason for report).
