Hello Eileen- yes, Nance Meredith was Edward Amies second wife-

but his first wife was Ann Meredith (which we suspect to be Nance's mother).

This is Edward Amies first marriage:

England Marriages 1538-1973 Transcription (FMP)

Marriage date: 21 Jan 1867
Marriage place Wolverhampton, Stafford, England

name: Ann Meredith Age 26
Father: John Meredith
Spouse name: Edward Amies (Carpenter of Compton Road)
Spouse's father: Jeremiah Amies
Residence: Wolverhampton, Stafford, England
Place: Wolverhampton
County: Staffordshire
----------------------------------------------

This is the listing on FreeBMD (transcribed as Amos):

Marriages Jun 1866 (>99%)
AMOS Edward Wolverhampton 6b 764
Meredith Ann Wolverhampton 6b 764

EDIT: This one is wrong year- see Greyghost's message below for correct entry.

Confused - if Edward Amies married Ann Meredith on 21 January 1867 from England marriages on FMP- see Gritty's post above, backed up by an image of the certificate from Staffordshire marriages also on FMP

marriage at St Mark's Wolverhampton, both Fathers deceased, witnesses Jeremiah Porter(Signed) and Edith Hicklin (her mark)

why
would that show on freebmd in June Quarter 1866 as also posted above?

Could it be this one - also with Edwards surname incorrect (but as taken from the original scan used for transcription)?

Surname First name(s) District Vol Page
Marriages Mar 1867 (>99%)
Amers Edward Wolverhampton 6b 641 Scan available - click to view
Amus Edward Wolverhampton 6b 641 Scan available - click to view
Gallin Lucy Wolverhampton 6b 641 Scan available - click to view
HILL Joseph Wolverhampton 6b 641 Scan available - click to view
Meredith Ann Wolverhampton 6b 641

There doesn't appear to be an equivalent marriage with Edwards surname spelt correctly on GRO listings, only the England and Staffordshire marriage lists

Stumped me!

Is it possible they married under a registrar in 1866 and had a church wedding in 1867?

of Mother say's Ann Amies1877 Birth and Death for both recently obtained from Genes Reunited Eileen.

I've told Eileen to post on here so that we can all help

There is NO marriage for Mary A Richards to Edward, someone has mucked up their tree at Ancestry!

Eileen, my next move would be to buy the marriage certificates, that might help you

I've pm'd Eileen the original marriage cert for Edward's first marriage in 1867 to Ann Meredith.

His second marriage appears to be to Ann's illegitimate daughter, Nance Meredith in 1879.

Mary Ann was NOT Edward's first wife

Hope this helps
