Hi, I'm helping my elderly father find relatives and more about his ancestry .Im trying to find out more information on Matthew Thomas Hunt 'Mack' cka Michael who moved to New Zealand in 1948 .He passed away in 1961 .Ive managed to find his last address in New Zealand in Ponsonby ,Auckland and I've ordered a copy of his death certificate .We cannot find any photos of him .Is there any way of finding somebody either in England who knew him before he moved or from New Zealand .He was born in London in 1907 .He was my Dads Uncle .I was hoping that his Death Certificate would help,I thought it would have to be registered by family member/friend but there is none of that on there .
Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Sincere Thanks flowergirl

Is this the family in 1911? His place of birth is actually Westminster.
Name: Matthew Hunt Age in 1911: 4 Estimated birth year: abt 1907 Relation to Head: Son Gender: Male Birth Place: Minster Civil Parish: Battersea County/Island: London Country: England Street address: 12 Corunna Place, Battersea S W Registration district: Wandsworth Registration District Number: 26 Sub-registration district: East Battersea ED, institution, or vessel: 25 Piece: 2168 Household Members: Name Age Elizabeth Hunt 32 Matthew Hunt 4 Rosie Hunt 13
The head of the family is Matthew Hunt aged 37 whose name has been crossed out, presumably because he wasn't at home. Matthew and Elizabeth married 15 years, 2 children, both living.

According to the passenger list Matthew born 1907 went to New Zealand with his parents Matthew and Elizabeth. Rosie Hunt from the census given in the post above by BeverleyW did not travel with them.
Their last residence in England was Belle Vue, Beech, Alton, Hampshire.

Hi - the 'National Library of NZ' (Auckland) (on-line) has an 'Ask a Librarian' service. They will check their electoral rolls (past & present) for him - (give them the suburb/date you've mentioned) -they will even check newspaper death notices (1961). Valerie WAus

Fantastic Thankyou x
They are all part of my Dads family,Ive managed to do quite a lot but things like -there being 2 Matthews 2 Ezras can make it a bit more complicated .
One thing I keep getting stuck on is - Thomas Hunt (b 1845) - he was married to Mary A Hunt - Now, in the 1901 census he is still there with all the children in High Cross Hertfordshire but in the 1911 census his wife Mary A Hunt is living in Mayo Ireland with one of the children plus her Mother In Law Margaret Hunt and it says widowed but I cannot find when or where he died .
I am so appreciative of all of your help ,Im trying to put the pieces of the family puzzle together but sometimes I just get stuck on where to look next .
Thankyou All Flowergirl x
As far as I can work out ,he was my Grandads actual birth father,my Grandad Ezra John Hunt (born 1896) was obviously very young when Thomas Hunt died .He always had Matthew Hunt and Elizabeth Hunt as his 'parents' (they were actually his older brother and sister in law) but Im guessing that they brought him up as they all lived together and my Dad always called them Gran & Grandad Matthew . So I dont know if my Grandad knew Thomas Hunt as a father at all or not .My Dad said Grandad never told them of him or most of the bothers and sisters Ive since seen that he had .
I havent got a birth certificate for Matthew Thomas Hunt yet .Ive found 2 marriages for him ,one which I knew of and the other I didnt - it seems he married a Gwenda M Jones in 1947 in Alton Hampshire so yesterday I tried to find more about that but kept reaching a dead end . It may sound silly but I would love to get a photo of 'Mack' Matthew Thomas Hunt as he is/was still part of my Dads family .

Wow ,you are all so helpful x
Gritty - how did you find the Royal Artillery info ?- Ive been searching for any forces info as my Dad said he thought Mack was in the Forces .
Chris - With the Auckland probate thing is that something I can order or find more about ? I also wonder whatever happened to any of his belongings - passport, birth cert etc ?
Regarding his birth cert,I do have record of his Christening /baptism and Gran (Elizabeth Sarah ) is down as his mother and Ezra his father which probably is the case but regarding Thomas Hunt Im pretty sure that he was Grandads real Dad .My Dad said he remembers the house in High Cross,Herts from visiting there when he was very small prob mid-late 1930s and he said there was also a John Hunt (Johnnie) who Dad referred to as the other Grandad but again I have no birthdate or any info on him .
Ive also been trying to find information on the other Matthew - Matthew Hunt born Feb 14 1886 - Dad thinks he was in the forces .Dad said He was a boxing champ in the forces so Ive been trying to find anything on him .
Ive got my Grandads passport from 1913 its amazing to see and have old documents .
Thanks Everyone x

Hi All , My Dads family are all from Clapham Junction Battersea SW11 .Ezra JD Hunt is my Grandad he has only lived in London apart from the very early time in High Cross and then Alton Hampshire he died in 1970 .The other Ezra born 1875 is one of his brothers (older) .
alviegal - This lady is my cousin who I met for the first time a few weeks :-) .
gritty - regarding the ireland thing I must have got that mixed up somehow - probably doesnt help that I do most of this during the night when I cant sleep . Thanks for the Seamen details of my Great Grandad ,thats great I can give those to my Dad .
Ive got Thomas Hunt birth as 1845 which Im sure is right .Ive got Mary A Hunt as birth 1852 .
The 8 High Cross address is the 'early' home of Ezra JD Hunt, in the 1901 census when living there my Grandad Ezra JD was only 5 .
When I was researching a few weeks back I thought I found that Thomas Hunt died in 1903 but I cant remember where I found that ?
Ongoing Thanks Everyone x

So regarding Ezra born 1875 (Father of Matthew Thomas 1907 according to Baptism) where did he go?...(Aus. Marriage 1912, as posted earlier, stated from Hertfordshire, England, bit of a coincidence!) then a Matthew being head of household 1911, where Elizabeth is...
Certs. definitely needed, getting 'muddling'!.
