No, I didn't post anything on this thread. I have been reading it because of my interest in the name Canavan My husband's gt. grandmother was a Canavan but not related as far as I can see.

Actually I'm wondering why Jacqueline chose to use my name in her post when it wasn't on the thread anywhere?

Jacqueline - I can't see any posts by Margee (unless she's deleted) but I did also say "Jacqueline, the relationship is already explained on the link that ArgyllGran provided."

If you click on that link posted by ArgyllGran it states "CHARLES CANAVAN, the veteran ex-jockey and father of David and William Canavan, cross-country riders, died in Dublin Ireland, May 15, age 69 years"

I would have thought that answered your question "How (exactly) did they relate to each other?"

Thank you all so much for your help, really appreciate it. Don't think it's the same David Canavan. Mine was born in 1853 and did live in America but he was married to Elizabeth Kelly, b.1859, Kildare,She died in 1918 in Kildare.Charles Canavan was married to Maria Monaghan, don't know when they were born, they were married in 1846 in Kildare. William Canavan was David's brother, born 1854 in Kildare. They were all jockeys. My grandfather, William John Canavan was born in 1881, also a jockey, left Ireland before 1918 and lived in Hertfordshire and Warwickshire with my Gran Rose who he later married.I know David Canavan was resident in America in 1902, he had previously travelled there numerous times for races he was in.

Jacqueline, the relationship is already explained on the link that ArgyllGran provided.

Looking at US passenger lists, David Canavan was born c1856 (he apparently moved to America according to newspaper articles). Pat - do you know if he died there?
