Thanks Mike - have now got George back to 1871 census - married to Jane - he is 29 at the time so I imagine getting him on 1861 will prove more difficult as he would only be 19 and probably unmarried. Thanks for your time in having a go at this.

Margaret Report 15 Jul 2015 12:55

UPDATE (July 2015). I have now sent for the marriage cert of Albert Holland and Edith Annie Jordan and at last have the name of Albert's father. With this I THINK I have located the correct family and full marks to ADIEU who listed what appears to be the correct family. On the marr cert Albert's father is named as George a brass finisher and Albert himself is 24 and also described as a brass finisher. I have gone onto the 1901 census and found the details adieu found and young Albert is described as a brass finisher on there too.... the only difference is that his place of birth is down as Camberwell NOT Wood Green. It has been a long haul but it looks now as if I am on the right track. Let's hope tracing George (b Lambeth) back to his parents proves easier. Thank you all so much for your efforts. I do appreciate it.

Thank you all for continuing to try and locate this fellow. Travelman - I too have just discovered that Edith was living in Hampstead as a maid and I msanaged to find a map showing the relative distance and funnily enough Hampstead and Wood Green are not too far away from each other. This would account for how they met.

Chris Ho - I was absolutely fascinated by the piece you found from the Coventry Evening Telegraph. How on earth did you find that ? I must admit to having a little giggle when I read it. I wonder if their father tanned their hides when he found out what they have done ?

I think the one above is still with dad Mark Holland (a carpenter) in 1911

The one with parents George and Jane on 1901 census was Albert W Holland on 1881 census.
says born Nunhead his brother Ernest William born Wood Green Middlesex and also brother Alfred born Wood Green.

So there could be a connection!!

29 October 1918 - Coventry Evening Telegraph - Coventry, West Midlands

County Police Cases.
George Holland and Albert Holland, Caludon Road, all Coventry boys, were charged by Inspector David Macfall with wilfully trespassing upon the railway at Humber Road, near Coventry, on the 6th of October, in such a manner as to expose themselves to danger or to the risk of danger. The boys admitted the offence. Inspector Macfall deposed to seeing the boys trespassing and chasing one another across the line near a level crossing. Fined 5s each.

It looks as if Edith was working in Hampstead, London with her sister at the time of the 1901 Census, which would suggest Albert could still have been in the London area at the same time if they married a few years later. I can't spot him though!

Margaret Report 13 Nov 2014 19:39

I agree. Having spent hours trying to locate him, it seems the only sensible thing. I was hoping to find Rugby marriages via parish records online but they do not seem to be available. Thank you everyone for trying.

I also think you will need the marriage cert

But there is this one who is a 'brass finisher', just wondering as the father's name is George like Albert's son, but it is just a guess.

Yes Shirley - you are on to the right Albert Edward. Unfortunately I do not have the marriage certificate and if all else fails I will need to purchase it. I did try to find it on parish records and familysearch but to no avail. I have made a note of the Albert 1884 birth and notice it is Lambeth. Is Lambeth near Wood Green do you know ? Also, the year is slightly out and I would have hoped the Albert would have known how old he was. Still, worth noting. Thank you for your help.
