I would really appreciate your expertise tracing further information about my great grandfather Henry George Griffiths known as Harry c1882 born in Bristol. His wife was Alice Maud Andrews born 1882 in Tunbridge Wells - I have got her birth certificate (mothers maiden name was Lee). I cannot find their marriage record anywhere and I'm not sure about his birth record. On the 1911 census Harry was listed at 9 Crimea Road, Aldershot occupation - driver for the Royal Horse Artillery. He is listed with Alice and daughters Kathleen Gladys born 1907 in Newbridge, Kildare and my grandmother Elizabeth Ann who was born in the barracks in Alderhsot in 1909. Kathleen had a twin brother Patrick who died at 9 days old. They then had another daughter Dorothy Mabel born in Leeds in 1912 and Alice Rose born in Cardiff 1914. I was hoping you could double check for their marriage - I'm wondering if they could have married in Ireland? I have discovered this week that my great grandmother Alice Maud was admitted to an asylum in Bridgend, Glamorganshire in 1916 and died there in 1920. According to her patient record ( which to my amazement included her photo!) her address was Flint Street, Cardiff and her mother-in-laws address in 1916 was in Ruby St, Cardiff. This info helped me find Harry's family (mother also called Alice born Wells, Somerset c1862 and father George born Almondsbury, Bristol c1862 in 1911 census with siblings Frank c1887 (Swindon) Archibald c1891 (Swindon), Bert/Burt c1896 (Bristol), Jack c1896 (Bristol), Victor c1896 (Bristol), Gladys c1894 (Bristol) and their widowed daughter Ada Chillcott c1885 (Bristol) and her two children.
I have found the family in 1901 living at Broom Hill, Bristol but Harry is not listed and I am having trouble finding him on that census. In 1891 the family are living at Eastcott Hill, Swindon - Harry is listed there age 8.
Fast forward to 1920 and my great grandmother passes away. Harry then marries Isabella C Fisher and goes on to have more children including Phyllis c1922 in Bristol and Brenda c1924 in Cardiff. However checking today I found two marriages with the same names, one in Bristol 1920 and another in Cardiff 1926. Does that seem like too much of a coincidence?? Would they really get married twice? I am also unsure when Harry passed away. I have found two possibles, one in 1931 and another in 1959. The 1st set of daughters were estranged from their father but I have been told that Harry also ended up in an asylum. I went to the local archives today but they could not find any trace of him. Their records stop at 1955. However I seem to remember finding a entry somewhere during my research where I found a male called Harry griffiths as an inmate but hard as I try I cannot find it now - unless it was some weird dream because that's all I'm thinking about at the moment - ha! I'm very grateful for any input. Regards Cath
