Hello!

I am looking for any information regarding EDWARD GARDNER.

EDWARD married EDITH CULVERHOUSE (possibly at St Mary's,) Watford, Hertfordshire in December 1928.

We believe that EDWARD remained in Watford until his death on 14th Jan 1958.
I have found a death for EDWARD GARDNER listed March Qtr 1958, Paddington age at death 59.

We have a WWI medal that belonged to EDWARD GARDNER, Pte 22719 Bedfordshire Regt. Ancestry records show that EDWARD also served as Pte 44671 in the Essex Regt. He also received the Silver War Badge.
I was hoping to find EDWARD GARDNER'S military record, as this would have given me his place of birth, his age and next of kin, but sadly I haven't been able to locate his Service Record.
So, what I am looking for...
The place of birth,
The birth date / year (c.1899?)
Next of kin/Parents
.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

*Note, please do not forward any information regarding Edwards wife Edith Culverhouse, or any of the Culverhouse family, as this family line has been done to death.
Regards,
Lin.
:-)

It would be in your best interest to purchase a copy of his first marriage cert.

It will tell you how old he was when he married, where he was living at the time and the name and occupation of his father. The witnesses might be family members to.

You might then be able to find him on the 1911 census.

Thanks PricklyHolly, I was aware of that, ... EDWARD GARDNER isn't related to me, I am asking on behalf of an elderly gent in Australia, who contacted me asking for help with his grandfathers military record ... our conversation has since progressed, and the old man would like to find out more. I thought I would ask here on Genes - was hoping someone might have Watford Parish marriage records on CD before emailing the old gentleman and asking him to part with his money to buy a marriage certificate.
Thanks anyway.

Lin.

Mike, No, I do not have Edith Culverhouse's DOB, the gentleman did not pass on any Culverhouse information, his interest lies in his grandfather. He knows absolutely nothing about his grandfather, other than the fact that he was awarded a WWI medal and that he married his grandmother, Edith Culverhouse in 1928.

Chris Ho,

That's brilliant info, thank you.

But, if EDWARD GARDNER was discharged in 1918 aged 35, surely that makes his birth year 1883?

Chris... :-D

I totally accept the age given at discharge, 35. as recorded in the Medal Roll, which means that I am wrong with the death I had found in the deaths index for EDWARD GARDNER in 1958.

The gentleman in Australia is Edward Gardner's grandson, he has given me the date 14th Jan 1958 as Edward's death. No age mentioned.

Since EDWARD GARDNER appears to have been born in c 1883, it's back to the drawingboard! :-S to find his death...

Thank you Mary. The gentleman probably already has that info, but I shall pass it on ... he told me that his family have traced the Culverhouse family line way back to the 1600's. It is his grandfathers side of the family, the Gardner's, that he knows nothing about. No one spoke about his grandfathers family, and he is wondering why? Why was there such a secret?

Chris :)

(But, to be sure of more facts, Marriage Cert. needed, no point spoiling Family Tree guessing!)

Thank you so much Chris, That looks good, it looks like I have found the elusive Edward Gardner . Your help has been fantastic, I think things are beginning to fall into place now. I will advise that the gentleman purchase a marriage certificate, so that we know that there can be no mistake. It's a shame that EDWARD'S military service record did not survive as that would have answered so many questions, still, I think, thanks to your help, that we are now on the right track.

Many many thanks.
