I'm trying to helping a friend find out who his grandfather is. My friend is the grandson of Susie (Susan) Hancock Jacobs. She appears to have been widowed after being married for less than one year and living back with her parents in St. Austell in 1911 census. Her son Stanley was born four years later and given the Jacobs name but I cannot find his birth anywhere in England. His mother "took her secrets to the grave". I realize he could have been born elsewhere, on a different date or under a different name.

You need to quote them when ordering certs from the GRO.

When and where did she marry........and to whom?

I rather fear that you are not going to be able to find out who fathered Stanley - his mother covered her tracks pretty well
