Hi all,

I'm trying to establish what happened to Henry W. Cooper (born c.1911). I was told by an elderly family member that Henry died in WW2 about 1944? I have no idea where or with what regiment? His parents were David W. Cooper & Ellen Haughton and I believe they were living in the Liverpool area. Any help would be great.

Thanks in advance,
Patrick.

Have you tried to find his exact date of birth from free bmd, or looked for his parents, and possibly him, in the 1911 census?

Hi Patrick

Where did the Cooper/Haughton marriage take place?

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 25 Sep 2014 22:21

All known War deaths are on the CWGC site.................check it out

Also, get accurate birth info by using freebmd, or LancsBMD

When were his parents 'living in Liverpool'?

When their son was born? Or when he died?

have you made any attempt yourself to find info?

Thanks for the replies. Henry's parents marriage took place in Bombay in 1909 while his father was serving there in the army. The father's death took place in Bootle, Liverpool in 1937. I've been in touch with another member on this site who also has Henry in his tree but he has no info on Henry's death in WW2.

Thanks Jacqueline. I believe that the W stands for William, GlitterBaby.

So was he born in Bombay?

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 25 Sep 2014 22:40

So this man may not have been born in the UK

Follow-through on the possible brother - that's your best bet

When and where was each of his parents born?

I appreciate all the help and of course I've tried researching my ancestors before asking for help :-) I've had success checking WW1 documents (for other ancestors) in the past but I'm wondering for WW2 records if his parents where listed as the next of kin and where could one view this info? I've found several other siblings for Henry but am focusing on his demise at the moment. Thanks again for the help.

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 25 Sep 2014 23:07

Only the next of kin can apply for WW2 records, and they cost £30.00, unless the NOK is the man's widow

There is no obvious record on CWGC for him.

But his supposedly dying in 1944 does not necessarily mean that it was anything to do with the War

Thanks for the info Jacqueline. I suppose that's the trouble with 'family' stories, hard to know whether they're true or not!!! I'll try a different approach on this one :-)
