Thomas Henry Jamieson married Irene Pamela Marley on 20th November 1917 in Wellington New Zealand. I would like to confirm the best man's name from his signature if anyone has access to the marriage certificate. If I can confirm that he is Francis Meredith Evans he can be included in the Onward project photo book of WW1 service men (with the bridegroom, my grandfather) as he is in the wedding photo. I have his service record and it fits with what I know about the best man but would like to be sure before I send the photo for publishing in the book. He was Lieutenant Evans but I am unsure of his christian names, he died in the war sometime after this date. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks Margaret Hunt |

Thank you my grandfather was in the 36th and I know they both went back after he recruited more troops. I am pretty sure I have the right one but would like to be absolutely sure since it is a national record. |

He was a sergeant and then a second lieutenant according to his war record. |

I saw that Chris where the papers said he was in the 35th.. but on the military database it has him with the 37th and Jamieson with the 36th.. |

So do you think I have enough information to say I have the correct person without confirmation from the marriage certificate? The other details suggest it as well, they were both from Wellington and worked in government etc. |

Marie could be right that the best man may not necessarily have been one of the witnesses ...but... on all the marriage certs that I have seen for NZ the best man and the chief bridesmaid are.... |

Thanks yes I have the cenotaph information. I just want to make sure I have the right Liet. Evans as it is a common name. I used their search to work out which one as I know he died after this date but before the end of the war. This is the one that fitted all I knew as far as I could find. I have info, numbers and photos of 7 other relatives etc who are not in the index for the first 2 volumes of the Onward project so I am trying to get it all together to send the photos in for vol 3 due out for the centennial. They are trying to get photos of all the WW 1 people so an historic record, I only heard about it from my cousin who I am doing some family tree work with, she has done the great uncle whose photo I gave her last year. |
