I think you might be following the wrong family Andrew:

The parents of John South Phillips were married in 1824 Huntingdon (as posted above by mistycat- however, you state your John and his wife Mary married in 1821- where did this information come from?

Do you have the birth year right for John Phillips? There's this one baptised in 1781 (as posted by Chris HO above)

Name: John Phillips
Gender: Male
Christening Date: 01 Jul 1781
Christening Place: Stanton Parish, England
Father's Name: Edward Phillips

The full will of John Phillips (1790-1849) is on Ancestry, it is quite difficult to read but if you're interested I can send you a copy:

England & Wales, Prerogative Court of Canterbury Wills
Name: John Phillips
Probate Date: 2 May 1849
Residence: Great Barton, Suffolk, England

He appoints his son, John South Phillips, and his brother, Captain Robert F? Phillips of the Royal Artillery executors of his will. He mentions brothers Charles Henry Phillips and Henry George Phillips and brother-in law ?? James Gibson.

Edit: I believe his brother named executor is Captain Robert Fryer Phillips who died in 1856 aged 65- HOWEVER, his death reported in the paper lists him as the third son of JOHN Phillips Esq of Pall Mall London, (and not son of Edward as you listed- have we been searching the wrong family??)

OK- not sure the above records apply to your John Phillips as this is the Baptism for his brother, Robert:

Robert Fryer Phillips
Baptism Date: 3 Oct 1790
Baptism Place: Great Barton, Suffolk, England
Father: John Phillips<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Mother: Frances Phillips
FHL Film Number: 989616

Who was your Ancestor (brother of John) that you mention in your post?

Andrew Report 4 Sep 2014 23:00

Hi,
I'm looking for my ancestor brother, John Phillips, born in 1790 at Stanton Suffolk. His parents were: Edward and Mary Phillips. John got a job as an apprentice farm labourer. He got married to Mary (unknown) at Botesdale Church Suffolk in 1821. They moved to Great Barton. In 1823 John South Phillips was born, but Mary died in 1825. Eventually John was a wealthy farmer. Did he get remarried again? What happened to John South? I will wait for your reply, regards Andrew.
