I don't want to be a pooper here, but the boy born in1951 is likely to be living

A breach of his privacy and a shock to family members who are not in the know

not a problem for him Gins as he would like to know about his father and what happened to him..

My concern is more for the feelings of the family of the man whose name has been
given as the putative father, and who may not know about the son born in England.

I had wondered about John instead of Ian, as rootgatherer suggests.

There are birth records for four John Andrews and two Andrew Johns, 1915 -35;
marriages for two John Andrews 1930-60; and three John Andrew deaths.

But as you don't know the names of Ian Andrew's parents, or wife, or where in Scotland he might have been born/married/died, it seems a fruitless search, Patrick . There's nothing to point to any one of them in particular.

As said before, if you buy credits on ScotlandsPeople, you can look them up if you want to, though you'd then have to buy the certs for any further details. All the records I've mentioned are too recent to be allow you to view the images online.
