UPDATE _I HAVE THE MARRIAGE CERT _IT IS HIM :)
I have a Samuel Trout (born C1841 Topsham, Devon) who was married to Elizabeth Stamp (Born Woodbury C 1840,Devon in my tree. Elizabeth died -and according to the grave stone, Samuel married again to anEmily ?. (None of my family have heard of her!) -only of Elizabeth They lived in Topsham Devon. I have found Samuel on 1911 census -and indeed he is living with an Emily as his wife. I have checked our local church records -but couldn't find a marriage for them.
I did find one in Newton Abbott for OND 1906 -but am not sure if it's them. I don't see why he would marry there? (I appreciate I may have to bite the bullet and order it anyway) Does anybody know if there are any other places I can check? I have emailed the westcountry Studies library -but have had no reply yet. Hoping they may have parish records for Newton Abbott ....

Well it says on the 1911 that they have been married 4 years which would be right for the 1906 marriage?

Newspapers, for an idea!...names sometimes give clues in Death notices etc.

I've just sent a couple of the obituaries listed in the paper to you by pm- he was known amongst his friends as 'Captain Trout' :)
Neither of them mention Emily- perhaps she died before he did?

YES! i would love the info -sorry only just seen your reply as been away.
Oh wow! thanks just seen this! -Yes I have some old papers from 'Aunt Flower/Flo' as she was called by my grandad. But there are no names on photos etc which is a shame. There is also a letter from Samuel son Rupert in 1901 which is pretty cool ;) Yes Emily died quite young according to the grave -so she did die before Samuel.
I just received the marriage cert today.
2.12.1906 at Zion Chapel,Torquay,Devon, Samuel Trout (Father John trout - deceased -Master mariner) Emily Gale age 45 -Spinster- father John Gale (deceased) a builder
So as I hoped really.
I think I may have Emily on 1881 with her sister Catherine? but need to confirm when i can get to library to look up things.
On 1911 Emily is down as born Teignmouth so it does fit -just need to find Catherine and Emily born Teignmouth with a father called John who is a builder ;) and the right dates of course.
This is the 'possible 'for 1881

it looks like the mother died soon after Emily was born, so that would explain why she was put out as a nurse child
