The 1851 census shows that he was the son of Matthew Cheeseborough & Dinah. They hadn't transcribed the previous page with the family. There are 9 children listed the oldest being 28. It looks like Dinah is a second wife, she's only 40. Matthew is 50.

Susan tickles me that Dinah is only two years older than the 1851 census.

I could'nt find them on the 1861 on Ancestry.

Marie

Marie Report 7 Jul 2014 10:35

the ggdad is for my Great Great Grandad.
as you can see from previous post his birth cert says his mother is sarah ann cheesbrough (nee Normington) born 1831- but the 1861 and 1871 have him living with the sarah annie from 1829 under the name Black

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 7 Jul 2014 10:39

A tree on Ancestry says that he's the son of Matthew Cheesbrough & Dinah Hargreaves but I still think Dinah is a second wife. Either that or her first child was born when she was 12.

My pooter had a fit and turned itself off but I am back now.

So have you know sorted this problem Marie? It seems to me that the enumerator got it wrong and put down Sarah Ann as the dau of Matthew and Dinah where in fact she was Dau in law. You can't go by the years of birth given as a lot of people in those times did'nt know when they were born or celebrated their birthdays.

Sarah Ann Normington married Matthew Cheeseborough in 1849. Her fathers name was Issac Normington.

You probably already have this.

The 1841 census rounded up peoples ages to the nearest 5 I think so here she is with her father and mother Elizabeth.

Sarah b. 1829 is the sister of Matthew ( son of Matthew )

Isaac is the son of the younger Matthew, ... I think.

Marie Report 8 Jul 2014 14:05

thank you all so much, esp mel fairy godmother - as when reading the marriage cert (which thought I had but didn't) it seems clear that sarah normington was born 1829 and his sister sara (was 10 in workhouse) so born in 1831. such a simple small mistake has battered my head, as I had wrote them down wrong on family tree!
just shows how easy it is eh guys.
thanks again, i'll now make changes and doesn't really matter what happened to sister sarah, its something don't need to know I suppose
thanks again :-D
