how do i find where my ancesters were burried and there inscription for chester le street and heworth ,for 1800,s to 1900,s are there any sites you can brouse online as i live a good distance from these areas

Have you looked for/at non conformist or RC burials? They may have had their own cemeteries and records.

Aside from the possibility that there was never a headstone, you may have to consider that the stone had been taken away before a volunteer had a chance to transcribe it, and the plot reused.

reggie i will never post again on hear .... how have people wasted there time all they did was give me standard search engins ..... which i allready knew ,,, i didnt know you had to put all the search engins on a post that you hae searched because the list would be to long ..... they gave me no information on my request as in do searches. I have found some fantastic information by searching newspaper archives. Local papers often give details such as who was in attendance, who floral tributes came from, and often details of close family members who have predeceased them.

It would have been sensible to say on here that you had googled...............that's what WE did.

You asked if there was anything online........we found sites for you. And we didn't need to..........

I have never seen you say please when you spout your orders, but you expect people to say please to you? They are not kids...were you a teacher in a past life by any chance?

Well said Jax - there are far too many posts which make me wince when I read them and just feel so sorry for people only just starting out on this wonderful interest. What a way to encourage them - it took me a long time to recover from the most unpleasant put down I received from the same person when I first asked for help.

You have some great search skills Reggie, why not just use them and give the pleasure of helping someone before you put them off for life. Not every one is blessed with perfection!!

Do you have any death certs for your relations who died in Chester Le Street or Heworth? If these give the place of death, then it may be worth a long search for Funeral Directors in the areas although you have probably done this already.

I have just traced my Gt. Grandparents burial place in Tower Hamlets, London. One of them is buried in an area bombed during the war and as it was badly damaged, they removed the headstones grassed over and called it by its burial Plot Name, along with many others. Some fell to early decay so needed to be demolished. However, I have my Gt. Grandmother's grave to visit in another part of the same Cemetery now a woodland park next year when I visit UK.

It takes time, but you will find everyone really helpful and they make suggestions. I had to make several visits to different cemeteries before I had the right one.
Tower Hamlets also known by the name Bow Cemetery and so this could be another reason for the difficulty, but do not give up.

Well thank goodness it's not just me that finds his comments appallingly rude and very discourteous to new members whom we should be welcoming to the boards! We are all novices to start with and make some very basic mistakes. I know I certainly asked what I now know to be a pretty silly question but at the time was just asking for help, not to be answered so curtly that I promptly deleted the thread and really daren't ask for help again for a long time.

Hopefully we can ALL now be nicer to new members!

Oh my goodness! As another Glasgow lass my mammy used to say "if you can't help, don't hinder" and "it costs nothing to be nice".

There's not much to help with on the boards these days and we have to ask ourselves "I wonder why?"

I have a couple of "brick walls" myself but would hesitate to ask for help even though I have been researching for over 30 years. Who wants to be made to look stupid?
