Hi there,

Any chance of seeing if I can find more out about these two people? I.e. where are they buried? Etc.

I would order the death certificates but had a bit of a nightmare trying to order the certificates from Belfast (or specifically checking them before purchasing). All a bit silly really.

Thank you,

Peter, it's so simple (and cost effective) to view the death records on https://geni.nidirect.gov.uk/

Granted it won't tell you where they're buried but you can check the enhanced details for 40p before you view the full death record for £2

e.g.

D/1889/150/1018/5/81 Eliza Ferris 21st February 1889 64 Female

(That's the free search)

You don't actually need to "order" the certificate because you can view it.

Ah this is new to me. Wow, when I inquired on the phone they said it would cost £8 search and then a following £7 for a copy of the certificate.

This way seems much simpler Thanks MarieCeleste.

Thank you MarieCeleste! Success! Getting the info as we speak. Thank you so much.

Was concerned I wouldn't be able to get this information!

Wow, very happy thanks to you.

I think it's a relatively new development Peter, but a step in the right direction.

If only English records could be accessed this way.

Peter

Peter Report 14 Jun 2014 00:26

Indeed. I couldn't agree more. I'm currently ordering a LOT of certificates just to validate a family tree which is correct (or has been so far as the certs have proved) so I can print and frame a copy. At the moment, it is proving very expensive.

MC - good link (not that I have any NI rellies)!

Guess you are not a football fan

If that is for me Jude, no, certainly not a football fan.

But yes that is a fantastic link.

On another note, any idea where I can find this death?

I suspect this is my ancestor and would like to confirm:

Peter, Castleblayney seems to be in County Monaghan which is in Northern Ireland, so you should be able to view on the same site as the others.

No Potty, tried again but to no avail. Any ideas? It too thought that was Northern Ireland.

Looks very much to me,looking at a map, as though Co Monaghan is just over the border from Northern Ireland.

RootsIreland has Monaghan records http://www.rootsireland.ie/

Thank you - I will have a look on there. I do like to have a guiding hand with things like this.

I do wonder if I could have a bit of advice - I am looking for the death of a Sarah Cardwell, born 1848, who died AFTER 1922, I ASSUME in Northern Ireland but I don't know. The same goes for George Ferris, born 1863, her brother. He was a barber in 1892 in Saintfield.

The family were from Saintfield but no idea where the ended up and that is what I would like to find out. There are other siblings but these two are the first I would like to find.

Thank you for any advice.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 14 Jun 2014 23:24

Peter, was Cardwell Sarah's married or maiden name?

Peter

Peter Report 15 Jun 2014 00:06

Married MarieCeleste. Sorry I should have explained.

Sorry about wrong info - should have asked OH, he is an Ulsterman!

Try this site for Irish (Eire) certs:

http://www.hse.ie/eng/services/list/1/bdm/Certificates/

You can also get pre-1921 Northern Ireland certs from there.

Peter, are you aware that the 1901 & 1911 Irish censuses are available to view free (including images) on this site:

Peter

Peter Report 15 Jun 2014 10:37

Thanks Potty - I'll try the site for the certificate, but not sure about the census as i can't seem to find George Ferris on there.

I'll keep this post updated.
