If you can find him on the Absent Voters list for 1918, that should give you his Regt No. That list doesn't seem to be on line but this site gives some info on where to find it:

Up until a couple of weeks ago I thought my grandfather served in the Royal Horse Artillary during ww1, he too had a common name and couldn't really find one that fitted.

Then Find my past added some new records for men that re-joined after the war....turns out he was in the Suffolk reg RFA.....So the stories about the RHA that were past down were wrong....plus I would never had thought of looking at Suffolk when he lived London/Essex area

thanks dea...but i have a feeling they stayed at francis st then moved around 1930 when they pulled down the houses.....thanks for all your help...and everyone else..but i think this may be a tough on because of the name...the only thing i do know is that my mum said her dad was in the scots reg and wore a glengarry..yhey would have been living in manchester so i think they nicknamed them the manchester scots reg...anyway i shall keep on trying xxxx

Dea

Dea Report 9 Jun 2014 13:37

The Roll of Honour was put together in 1920 so it looks as though that one probably is not yours, unless they moved on from Francis Street earlier in the year?

There ARE a lot of Albert Buckleys in WW1. The only medal card I could see for the Royal Scots was the one Jax and Chris posted. That man can be eliminated as he died and Margaret Elizabeth says her man came back from the war.

Margaret Elizabeth mentioned the "Manchester Scots" however there were a couple in the Manchester Regiment.

Dea Report 9 Jun 2014 08:17

Don't know if this is 'your man' but I found this from the National Roll of the Great War. - I don't know much about the Regiments but perhaps someone could check?

The address on there might help but I haven't got time to check just now so will post it and check later.

BUCKLEY, A., L/Corporal, 2nd Border Regiment.
Already in the Army at the outbreak of war, he was drafted
to France in August 1914, and took part in the battles of the
Aisne, Ypres (1), Neuve Chapelle, Ypres (II), Loos, Albert and
the Somme, and was wounded at Beaumont-Hamel. Invalided
to England, he spent six months in hospital, and then returned
to the Western Front, where he was in action at the Battles of
Ypres (III), Cambral, and the Somme (II) and was again
wounded at the 2nd Battle of Cambrai in the Advance of 1918.
He was once more invalided home, and was eventually dis-
charged in December 1919, holding the 1914 Star, and the
General Service and Victory Medals.

There were about 50 Albert Buckley's that served in ww1... That was the only one I saw that mentioned Scots if that was his regiment ?
