you say that Edith married bigamously in 1941.

As you don't know when Charles died, how do you know it was a bigamous marriage? Was there police involvement?

Could it be that Charles had died by then, and the marriage was legal?

Just a suggestion, assuming he was indeed alive when Edith married again - slight spelling difference, but could perhaps have been mistranscribed onto GROS Index:
