Hello, i was going through some old photos that i have and found one with writing on the back,

To me the name looks like FRANCIS SHOLTO. the photo was taken by a Walter Blackall in Folkestone Kent.
Someone said that Walter was in Folkestone in 1881 but in 1891 in Oxfordshire.

Francis Sholto was possibly born between 1881 and 1891, i would like to trace his family to pass on the photo possibly.

I can't find any sign of a Francis Sholto on ancestry


could you have mis-interpreted the spelling?

No-one on genes has a Sholto born in that time frame.

Google searches does not show anything, or points to the Queensberrys.

There is an F (also F B) Sholto in London phonebooks, but he appears to be Frederick, born 1891.

Was Walter a professional photographer or would this be a friend taking family photos?

Well he was in Folkestone in 1871 too

He was an assistant photographer to the head of house Thomas Newman

Free bmd does not have any births until 1922 of 'Sholto'
(They are probably children of the Fred that I mentioned above in telephone directories)

Is the picture of a young child?

If so it could be the mothers name on the back

I know the mums name isn't spelt correctly but people did mix up the spelling of Francis/Frances

the child is 3months old 33ibs in weight, i cannot say its not Francis SHOLTO,

A tree on ancestry has a photo of Francis & Florence's marriage - it also has their son, who apparently had 2 sons (private, as I assume still alive), but I only spotted the 1 in 1943.

Added: It looks like the other son was reg in West Ashford in 1940.
