Many thanks for this information.
Gins.........you have spotted the mystery about married name v. maiden name. I have no other details about this woman except the 1891 and 1901 census where she tells us she was born in Ireland. It's possible her married and maiden name were the same ( my grandmothers was) or she reverted to her maiden name.

Reggie........... thanks for the 1881 Census with another John Ferris who was a vet I shall follow this man up.
I't taken myself and a cousin in Candian ages to try to work out who this woman was.

Margaret Ferris, the one on the census that Reggie posted is listed as a widow

This means Ferris is her married name so can't be the daughter of John Ferris

What details do you have for your Margaret, in addition to the father's name?

Hi Reggie......yes this is the Margaret Jane Ferris; we are looking for her father.
She married just after this census and gave her father as John Ferris vet. She says she was born in Ireland. From information found by Ginns, Chris and others...........John Andrew Ferris of the Royal Artillery is not her farther.......so are we able to find out more informatiom about a Irish John Ferris ?
