Just a thought - Ty Fos translate roughly as Boss House/House Boss..so perhaps it is not a place but a building?

You could try contacting Pontypridd registrar direct and explain the problem.

Some offices have extremely helpful staff.

Thanks for your efforts Jude, think I may have to get baby Hannah's death certificate just to satisfy my curiosity but think you'll be right Flip.

Appreciate all your help :-)

And let's hope it was a different registrar ;-)

Well unlikely to be a different registrar - judging by the page numbers. So unless it's just a bad copy it's hardly likely to be more ledgible on Hannah's death cert.

Well I have looked at it until I am blue in the face....to no avail.

I think it is a T something f ...

I would suggest you get Hannah Hurdidge's birth (or death) certificate - she is almost certainly the child that Mary died giving birth to.

Thanks for all your input..really appreciated. Will keep looking but if anyone finds another possibility please let me know.

Not related to this post but bought up earlier.....Apparently the 1871 Census for this part of Pontypridd was lost somehow...such a shame as so many questions could have been answered.

And sorry Reggie for offending you...had no idea that word was an obscenity...duly noted and removed ;-)

Thanks Chris - no point in trying again to find the census, if we couldn't find it last year it's not going to suddenly turn up now!

Unless someone can decipher the death cert don't think you'll get very far without going through parish records.

It certainly looks like 'Tips' to me - could the address relate to some sort of accomodation for workers on the coal tips> - There would have been plenty of them in the area?

Did her husband work in the mines?

Chris is right - the child's birth cert might help as it could show the same address.

(above, looks like second article from bottom could relate to missing 1871?)

I'm assuming she died giving birth to Hannah, whose birth and death were registered in the same quarter. Have you considered getting her birth cert for place of birth? Or do you have them on the 1871 census - i can see them 1861 but not 1871.
