Thank for all your efforts.
Hi patchem. Thanks for the info.
He was a bachelor when married 1870. I've tried both Scottish and England census. The Scotland Census 1841 & 1851 have the wrong mother and wrong father occupation. The immigrant Gray doesn't seem to tie in. I've checked for birth England/Scotland and haven't had a match with parents of the names I have.
My closest possible match with names and fathers occupation were England 1841 census - college building, South ?Cerney, 1851 census - rectory, Upton Lovell. and 1861 census - spells name Grey instead of Gray, but William has left which ties in.
In these census - William was said to be born in Gloucestershire, South Cerney.
I can't find a birth record or any other to tie it to my William.
Hi brummiejan.
Thanks for the info, but I can't tie it in with my dates and places.

Welcome to the boards, Lucienne.
Have you tried to find him in either the Scottish or English censuses, and any possible births for him?
Thank-you
Added: First marriage at 36? Bachelor or widower?

Hi all. Can anyone please help me with my Brick Wall?
My GGF, William Archibald GREY married My GGM Fanny Sophia FISHER in Dunkeld, Victoria, Australia in 1870.
On the Marriage Certificate his age is given as 36yrs and place of birth given as Perth, Scotland.
He died by drowning in Victoria, Australia in 1878. His Death Certificate states he was born in Devonshire, England.
Also on DC it says he had been in the Australian Colonies of Tasmania and Victoria 20yrs.
On both certificates, his father’s name is William GREY also. (no middle name) His mother’s name on MC is given as Eleanor (LUKE) GREY. Mother not known on DC. His father’s occupation given as Wesleyan Minister on MC and Minister of Religion on DC.
Information from my grandmother who was born in 1879, was that he was a master mariner and had been on a ship which was wrecked on the way to New Zealand. He died before she was born. Other information from her I have found to be skewed, so don’t know how reliable this info is.
Any help greatly appreciated. This has had me stumped for years.
