Looking for ancestry of two people: Letitia MONTGOMERY, dau. of John, a bookkeeper - she was b. ca 1822, poss. in Ireland or N. Ireland; and John SCANLAN/SCANDLIN/SCANDLAND, son of Lawrence, a stonemason - he was b. ca 1821, prob. Ireland. They married 10 Oct 1838 at Saint Nicholas (C of E) Church, Liverpool; she was about 16, and 5 months pregnant; and he about 17. Acc to family tradition, she was disowned by her family. They had 3 known children: Ann Jane, b. 4 Feb. 1839, Margaret, bp. Dec 1840, and Letitia, b. ca. 1844. Margaret m. John BEIRNE/BYRNE/BURN in Chorlton; Letitia junior m. John FONE, also in Chorlton. It is not known what happened to Ann Jane. Letitia (Montgomery) Scanlin died 25 Feb 1845, Liverpool. Death date and place for John unknown. This young family is in the 1841 census for Liverpool, but not in any subsequent censuses as far as I can see. Families of their parents not found in any census. No clue as to where either partner may have come from in Ireland. |

Thank you Gins - No, I hadn't considered this Jane Scanlon as a possible 'Ann Jane Scanlon'. Looking at the 1851 census where she is enumerated at 79 New ?Birch St., I am inclined to think that she is a member of the Scanlon family next door at 77 New ?Birch St. - Owen, 60, his wife Mary, 50, and their children Thomas, Patrick, and Mary, ages 26, 21, and 19, all born in Ireland. Although Jane, 13, general servant to Mary McGlue, is listed as born in Liverpool, she could be a later child of theirs, born after they arrived in England (though I don't see this family in the 1841 census). There's another Scanlon family on the preceding page, also at 77 New ?Birch St. -- James & Catherine and their three children, all born in Ireland. Sounds very crowded! |

Unless they have changed things back, I believe that they have removed the facility to 'untick' Ginns! :-( :-( :-( |
