A big thank you to everyone for your guidance and assistance, this morning, my sight is at its best in the morning, I had a closer look at the two marriage images, and with the help of windows photo viewer I magnified them, and this revealed that what several of you have said is correct. |

It may be worth looking at the actual images on Scotlandspeople. The details given on OPRs varied from parish to parish. Some give the name and occupation of the fathers. |

I've no doubt that one is a record of banns being proclaimed, and the other is a record of the marr. |

As civil registration was not introduced in Scotland until 1855 these two records cannot be records of a civil marriage as OFITG has indicated, |

Same here Reggie, just noticed the date! Still think the entries are for the same couple - too much of a coincidence. If any of their children were born in Scotland after 1855, the birth cert will give date and place of marriage. |

OFITG, have you looked at the images? I would think that this is the same couple. Marriages in Scotland could (in theory) take place anywhere and be registered after. The images will tell you where the marriage took place. |

It does not take much to confuse me at my age, I traced the parents of a William Richmond who married a Jane Wotherspoon, the parents for William on their marriage certificate were given as a John Richmond and a Janet Meikle, on a census I determined that Janet was born in Lesmahagow and that John was born in Loudoun. |
