That's true Jax. There are endless possibilities. Let's hope info on the birth certificate will help. Thanks both. |

Hi Joonie. Thanks for that. Lots of food for thought! I have just sent for her birth certificate in the last couple of days so hopefully it will be of some help. The last record I have is in Wavertree cottage home in the 1911 census as she doesn't seem to have gone back into the workhouse. There is no record of a marriage or a death under Sarah Meadley so the only other 2 possibilities are adoption or being sent as a migrant child. Both seem to offer nothing but dead ends. |

just browsing recent threads ... and having a slight interest in home children as my Hoar ancestor's sister-in-law emigrated and married a home child who was one of the cheap farm labourers that many of the boys were sent out to become ... |

Hi Shirley. Her mother died in 1911 and her father in 1946. Not quite sure where your Mossendew connection fits in and as far as I know she didn't have a brother only a sister Mary Ann who died I 1990. |

Jax. You may very well be right and that could be the answer as to why there is no record of a possible marriage. Idid find one and sent for the marriage certificate but the parents names weren't right. It sort of adds up doesn't it. Thanks for taking the trouble to answer me as I never thought of adoption as a possibility. |

Surely if she had left the country in that name, someone would have found it and posted it on the other thread |

Hi Potty. Have tried googling for Australia and New Zealand but I think it was only Rootsweb that seemed to have anything to offer but it was a bit vague and you needed to pay for membership. The results were for Australia but couldn't find anything at all for New Zealand |

I remember looking for Sarah on the Canadian Home Children sites but found nothing. Have you Googled for Australia and New Zealand? |

Have checked for those years but no record of a Sarah Medley. Are there similar sites for Australia and New Zealand where I understand children from cottage homes were also sent? |

No. I havent posted about it before. I just remarked on it as a possible reason for not being able to find any trace of an ancestor. Sorry if I should have added it to the original thread but thought I had to start again as it was a completely new line of enquiry. The person I am seeking is Sarah Meadley ( in 1911 census as Medley) born in Liverpool in 1906 to Thomas and Ann Meadley. |
