On 1881 Census (Spinney Spring, Shepshed) I have John Bettridge and wife Martha nee Bottrill. She is said to be born Walton on Trent abt 1853 - age 28 on census. I have tried to locate her on 1871 census but to no avail. I have also tried freebmd for the marriage of these two but again no success. I wonder if anyone would mind having a go in case I have missed her. Many thanks.

Where was the 'husband' in 1871?

I presume her maiden name is taken from a child's birth cert?

Sorry Reggie - I must be blind or something... specsavers here I come. Thank you so much. The location of the marriage surprises me as Martha born Walton on Trent and John born Measham. 1871 John living Stapenhill with parents and sibling and of course no info re Martha.

Seems like John changed his name for the 1881 census? Very strange. I also would like Margaret to return and paste the 1881 census that she found because I'm not having much luck in finding it!!
