Find Ancestors

Hello rootgatherer

One of the trees on ancestry is the Godden Family, The info for Robert's birth came from Family Search, it gives the birth date, place and mothers name of Catherine.

Also one tree on ancestry has Roberts father and mother, But I cannot find a trace of either of the parents.

I am aware of the problem of not having to register a birth before 1875, which is possibility in this instance.

Not sure how they have an exact date of birth as they give their sources as census records and English and Wales death index.

I believe there was no penalty for parents not registering a birth prior to 1875. If his mother wasn't a churchgoer, perhaps he wasn't baptized.

Yes, Robert did become part that thread, but as I was unable find mother or father
I thought I would get Robert's birth cert, but as you can see I cannot find Robert's actual birth, so I thought if the good people on here could offer some more advice
I might be able to go ahead with the application for the certificate.

I do appreciate the help and advice that is freely given here and
I have no wish to waste other peoples time, so my apologies.......!!

I have looked at George Galloway who married a Catherine Stocks, she was born 1813, but they never had a son Robert.

Robert's mother's a mystery - she apparently only puts in an appearance in 1871.

Perhaps Robert was born with a different surname and his mother then married a Mr. Galloway.
His marriage certificate would give his father's name if known.

The thing that is a real puzzle is the 1861 census as there is no mention of Roberts family on there ...!
It is my intention to get a birth cert but I don't have a birth date as such
